  • Can I buy any audio reciever for my home theater speakers?
there ar many audio receivers available , however for a wide range I suggest E-bay.

    http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&dfsp=32&afepn=5335972787&catref=C6&saaff=afepn&sacur=0&fcl=3&customid=audio+recievr&frpp=50&from=R6&saslop=1&fss=0&satitle=audio+reciever&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&a14=-24&a31574=-24&a31300=-24&a10244=-24&alist=a14%2Ca3801%2Ca31574%2Ca31300%2Ca10244&pfmode=1&reqtype=1&gcs=1579&pfid=1964&pf_query=audio+reciever&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=ZIP%2FPostal&sabfmts=1&saobfmts=insif&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=32%26fsoo%3D2

As the first chap said, as long as your total impedances are fine for the new receiver, you're fine.
Don't, for heaven's sakes, buy another Sony receiver. There are better makers to buy from, for no more money, and often, for more features for the same money.
Look at Yamaha, Pioneer, Onkyo, and Denon, and have a look for them on amazon.com. Not only do they sell a lot of such gear, their review sections can really give you some great feedback from owners of the equipment.

You can keep the speakers and use any component receiver but make sure that speaker impedance is within the boundaries of the speakers.
  • How do I get more power to my rear home theater speakers?
If you have a real Dolby Digital receiver (and not a crappy $399 box system) - it must have a setup menu that lets you add/subtract some volume to each rear speaker.

Find this setting and add volume to the rears which will be an offset to the main volume control so volume from all speakers will go up/down.

    "rear speakers with subs" -

Ok - do you mean Woofers or self-powered rear speakers?

The low-frequency sounds take lots more power to produce sound. You may have just added power-sucking woofers to your system.

Also - the rear speakers only carry about ... 20% of the sound compared to the center so you may have improved the least used speakers in your system.

And - you have to go to your receiver and define the rear speakers as LARGE or it will not even try to send low-frequency sounds to the rears. Again - find the setup menu and tell it your rear speakers are LARGE to get the woofers to kick in.

  • How do I get more power to my rear home theater speakers?
Since you didn't include any specific information in your question (i.e. speaker brand, speaker model, receiver brand/model, etc), I'm going to assume that when you talk about two rear speakers with subs in them, you are talking about speakers that came from another system (like a shelf system) that have a large speaker inside the box, but only one speaker wire for the entire speaker. I'm also going to assume that your surround system isn't sending a lot of power to those speakers.

If this is the case I would get a Rocketfish Rear-Wireless kit from Best Buy.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8275528&st=rear+wireless+kit&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1171058476489

It's one hundred dollars, and will allow you to have the rear speakers driven by the rocketfish amp instead of the surround system's amp. It's pretty powerful and I've been happy with the performance of these units. Otherwise, you should just get a better receiver.
